President Jokowi Welcomes Timor Leste PM at Bogor Palace
Thepresidentpost.id - President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo Monday (02/13) received a state visit from Prime Minister of the Democratic Republic of Timor Leste Taur Matan Ruak at the Bogor Presidential Palace, West Java province.
PM Taur Matan Ruak and his entourage arrived at the palace at around 10:00 Western Indonesia Time and were also welcomed by cavalry troops, troops in traditional attire, and the marching band of the Presidential Security Detail. Betawi traditional dance called Tarian Kembang Mayang was also performed afterwards.
The welcoming ceremony was followed by listening to the national anthems of both countries, 19-gun salute, and an inspection of the troops.
Afterward, President Jokowi and his Timor Leste counterpart introduced their respective delegates. The two leaders then entered Teratai room for a photo session and guest book signing.
The two leaders then walked to the Palace backyard to plant a tree and they subsequently proceeded to Oval room to have a bilateral meeting.
In his remarks, President Jokowi warmly welcomed PM Taur Matan Rauk and the entourage.
“I also received the visit of President Ramos Horta in July last year. Such intensity of the visit shows a commitment to continue to strengthen relations and cooperation between us,” the President stated.
President Jokowi also expressed appreciation for Timor Leste’s involvement in ASEAN.
“I am glad that in principle, Timor Leste has been accepted as a member of ASEAN. At the ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ meeting this month, Foreign Minister of Timor Leste has participated in the meeting as an observer,” he remarked.
After the bilateral meeting, the two leaders were slated to sign an MoU and deliver a joint press statement.
