President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo Monday (12/18) attended Asia Zero Emission Community (AZEC) Summit at the office of Japanese Prime Minister.
“Every nation has a unique and different energy transition strategy in line with their situation. Indonesia has the Indonesian Way of Just Energy Transition through the development of EBT and strengthening decarbonization,” the President said.
President Jokowi added that Indonesia as the world’s 3rd largest tropical forest country has taken a number of measures, including reducing emissions by lowering deforestation and forest degradation rate, as well as by developing mangroves to absorb carbon.
“I hope AZEC can emphasize the importance of decarbonization cooperation and inclusive funding to develop various CCS (Carbon Capture and Storage) & CCUS (Carbon Capture and Utilization Storage) projects,” the President said, adding that the estimated funding for ASEAN energy transition up to 2050 is US$ 29.4 trillion.
The President further said that scaling up sustainable funding is crucial to ensure that energy transition will drive economic growth and benefit the people.
“Synergy between the Government, private sector and banking sector is the key and the game changer to accelerate priority projects for energy transition, and support important emission reduction initiatives,” the President remarked. (BPMI SETPRES/AIT) (RI/EP)
