Thepresidentpost.id - Jakarta, Indonesia - The 2nd ASEAN Policy Dialogue (APD) was convened at the ASEAN Secretariat in Jakarta (6/12). The 1.5 track diplomacy involved both government and nongovernment entities from Foreign Policy Strategic/Planning Agencies or equivalent institutions, as well as think tanks and universities from ASEAN Member States (AMS).

“We convene not just to discuss a vision, but to sow the seeds of transformation that will shape the destiny of Southeast Asia in the years to come,” said Dr. Yayan G.H. Mulyana, Head of Foreign Policy Strategy Agency (FPSA) at the opening session of the forum. “ASEAN must prioritize….. and foster greater unity and solidarity among AMS”, Dr. Mulyana further emphasized.

The event focused on the ASEAN Community Vision 2045 (ACV2045) that was approved at the 43rd ASEAN Summit on 5 September 2023 and will be formally adopted in 2025. The 2nd APD discussed on research-based and projective inputs including recommendations on its strategic plans.

H.E. Dian Triansyah Djani, Senior Special Advisor to the Minister, highlighted contextual megatrends ahead such as geopolitical and geoeconomics dynamics, climate change, rapid technological changes, competition for resources, energy, and food security, as well as volatile financial landscape. He emphasized “ACV2045 must be fit-for-purpose and would be a testament to regional commitment to making ASEAN the locomotive for peace, stability, and prosperity”.

The forum vividly discussed elements of the ACV2045, namely political-security, economic, and socio-cultural pillars, as well as connectivity and institutional strengthening. Discussants touched upon efforts to address regional challenges, cross-pillar issues, digitalization both the infrastructure and human development aspects, as well as enhancing cooperation between AMS and ASEAN external partners.

The event was convened by the Foreign Policy Strategy Agency (FPSA), Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia, and the Economic Research Institute for ASEAN and East Asia (ERIA).
