Thepresidentpost.id - Jakarta, Indonesia - The 9th MIKTA Speakers' Consultation meeting took place this Monday, showcasing the DPR-RI's adept leadership in hosting international inter-parliamentary cooperation meetings. It highlights the DPR-RI's ongoing commitment to supporting parliament's role in addressing global challenges.

Themed "Strengthening Multilateralism, Addressing Intergenerational Challenges," monday's session delved into crucial topics such as strengthening parliamentary participation in global governance reform, climate change, and involving youth in addressing global issues. The parliamentary delegation of MIKTA members engaged in constructive discussions, with outcomes detailed in the Chair Statement.

On global governance, MIKTA parliaments collectively expressed the shared view that the current framework has not adequately resolved issues threatening world security, stability, and peace. MIKTA parliaments urged all parties to adhere to international law and uphold human values. The commitment to encouraging and supporting international efforts to find solutions by prioritizing multilateralism was emphasized.

Addressing the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, a majority of MIKTA parliaments called for an immediate ceasefire, release of hostages, and the safe delivery of humanitarian aid. MIKTA stands in support of international initiatives working towards peace and a two-state solution.

MIKTA parliaments reiterated their commitment to tackling climate change, acknowledging its global impact. Despite challenges, MIKTA parliaments pledged an active contribution, emphasizing the importance of inclusive and sustainable development. Collaboration across all sectors of society was underscored to combat climate change.

An integral aspect of the Chair Statement is MIKTA parliaments' awareness that actions taken by MIKTA and the international community in addressing global challenges profoundly influence future generations. MIKTA parliaments commit to considering the needs and interests of future generations, striving to leave a better world. MIKTA parliaments advocate for the involvement the younger generation in formulating efforts to manage global problems.

In an era of weakened trust in multilateralism, the DPR-RI invites MIKTA and the international community to demonstrate that cooperation is key to overcoming global challenges. Within this framework, MIKTA aims to promote global governance reform that accommodates the needs of middle powers and developing countries, aligning with 21st-century realities.
