Thepresidentpost.id - Windhoek, Namibia - A seafarer from Indonesia, N, has been released by the Angolan Police (02/02) after receiving legal assistance and support from the Indonesian Embassy in Windhoek. N was held in Comarca de Viana prison due to an involvement in a case of violence on the ship. "The Indonesian Embassy in Windhoek, Namibia, with its jurisdiction covering Angola, has been providing legal assistance and overseeing the case of the Indonesian citizens since October 2023," said Mandala, Head of Political - Protocol and Consular Affairs at the Indonesian Embassy in Windhoek.

The protection of Indonesian citizens abroad is one of the foreign policy priorities of Indonesia. In this context, the Indonesian Embassy is committed to protecting N by ensuring that his rights are fulfilled and facilitating legal assistance to resolve the case. The embassy faced challenges in assisting due to distance and communication difficulties due to the use of the local language, Portuguese.

Mandala also mentioned the support from the Indonesian Honorary Consul in Luanda, Vicente Inacio, who actively facilitated communication with relevant authorities in Angola. Additionally, the embassy was assisted by Indonesian citizens in Luanda who supported the embassy's efforts.

Currently, N is staying temporarily in one of the hostels in Luanda managed by an Indonesian citizen while awaiting his return to Indonesia. The Indonesian Embassy, together with the Indonesian Honorary Consul, continues to strive for the Angolan Police and related authorities to issue a permanent decision so that N can return to Indonesia by the end of February 2024.
