President Jokowi Meets President Biden at the White House
Thepresidentpost.id - Washington DC, Amerika Serikat - President of the Republic of Indonesia Joko Widodo (Jokowi) arrived at the White House, Washington DC, United State of America, on Monday (13/11) at approximately 16.20 local time or 04.20 Western Indonesia Time on Tuesday (14/11). The arrival of President Jokowi was welcomed by a guard of honour with troops carrying flags from all 50 states in the United States when a series of vehicles carrying President Jokowi entered the White House lawn. Upon arrival in front of the West Wing Portico, President Jokowi was immediately warmly welcomed by US President Joe Biden. Afterwards, the two leaders then walked to the Oval Office, President Biden's office in the White House, to hold a limited meeting.
In the one-on-one meeting between the two leaders, President Jokowi said that the partnership between the two countries can contribute to global peace. Therefore, President Jokowi invited President Biden to help stop the conflict and atrocities that occur in Gaza.
Previously, the Head of State revealed that the United States is one of the most important partners for Indonesia, one of which is in economic cooperation as a priority, including in supply chain issues. Therefore, both leaders agreed to increase the partnership between the two countries into a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership (CSP).
On the occasion, President Biden said that the cooperation between Indonesia and the United States, which has increased to a comprehensive strategic partnership, signifies a new era of cooperation between the two countries in various fields, including increasing cooperation in security.
Furthermore, President Biden said that other things that are of concern which will continue to be improved between the two countries are in terms of building a safe supply chain to tackle the climate crisis. This is because President Biden considers that Indonesia plays an important role in the clean energy transition.
President Biden also committed to continue to enhance cooperation between the United States and ASEAN to promote a free, open, and prosperous Indo Pacific region. On this occasion, President Biden also appreciated Indonesia's leadership in ASEAN this year.
After the limited meeting, the two presidents then held a bilateral meeting which was also attended by delegations from each country.
Also accompanying President Jokowi on his visit to the White House were Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto, Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Ad Interim Erick Thohir, Minister of Foreign Affairs Retno Marsudi, Minister of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology Nadiem Makarim, Minister of Health Budi Gunadi Sadikin, Minister of Trade Zulkifli Hasan, Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Arifin Tasrif, and Indonesian Ambassador to the United States Rosan Roeslani.
