Indonesian Community in Lima Celebrate 78th Independence Day
Thepresidentpost.id - Despite being far from their homeland, the spirit of commemorating the 78th Independence Day of the Republic of Indonesia still burned in the hearts of the Indonesian people in Lima, Peru. In the courtyard of the Indonesian Embassy in Lima, a solemn commemoration ceremony was held. (17/8)
The ceremony was led by the Indonesian Ambassador to Peru and Bolivia, Rangga Yudha Nagara. More than 50 people attended the ceremony, including staff of the Indonesian Embassy in Lima, members of the Dharma Wanita Persatuan, clergy, sisters, Indonesian diaspora, and Friends of Indonesia, including teachers and alumni of Indonesian Language for Foreign Speakers classes and journalists.
Although the temperature was around 19°C, the spirit and enthusiasm of the ceremony's participants remained high. The commemoration of Indonesia's Independence Day in Lima for the past three years has been limited to a smaller scale, making this ceremony a special moment.
As an expression of gratitude for independence, the Chief Representative cut the tumpeng (rice cone) and served a variety of traditional cakes and yellow rice dishes with Indonesian side dishes in a lunch with the audience.
The 78th Indonesian Independence Day commemoration ceremony in Lima concluded with the Flag Lowering Ceremony in the afternoon. Afterwards, a social gathering was held while enjoying soto mie and karaoke.
The festive occasion was also reflected by a special program held by Radio Cultural del Perú - Filarmonía 102.7 FM. In the morning, the radio broadcasted a special program focusing on the Indonesian Independence Day. The speech by the Ambassador was played for the Indonesian community in Peru and Bolivia, as well as various traditional Indonesian songs played on air for a full day.
The Independence Day celebrations was not just a ceremony, it was also a form of love and pride of the country's independence on the part of the Indonesian community overseas.
