President Jokowi Reaffirms Commitment to Farmers’ Welfare
Thepresidentpost.id - President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo on Monday (04/22) inspected corn harvest in Boalemo regency, Gorontalo province.
“Our corn import has decreased significantly from 3.5 million tonnes to 400,000-450,000 tonnes. However, the price of corn has also dropped from Rp8,000 to Rp5,000 or Rp4,000 per kilogram,” President Jokowi said.
On that occasion, the President emphasized the pivotal role of the state logistics agency Bulog in maintaining price stability and farmers’ income. President Jokowi also expressed his appreciation for agricultural landscape in Boalemo.
President Jokowi went on to say that he had ordered Minister of Agriculture Andi Amran Sulaiman to ensure timely and adequate supply of seeds and fertilizer to enhance agricultural productivity. The President also underscores the need to implement terrace farming in hilly areas to prevent erosion and sedimentation.
President Jokowi further said that his visit was part of the government’s commitment to support the agricultural sector and farmers’ welfare, as well as part of the government’s measures to improve national food security.
