Thepresidentpost.id - President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo on Saturday (12/02) attended the G77 and the People’s Republic of China (PRC) Summit as part of World Climate Action Summit (WCAS) COP28 in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
“COP28 must be an event to strengthen implementation, not to show ambition. The Paris Agreement principle must become a guideline, and responsibilities must be divided according to national capacity,” the President said during the Summit.
On that occasion, the President expressed Indonesia’s support for the G77 and the PRC, and invited all parties to jointly take action.
President Jokowi also invited all parties to strengthen South-South cooperation by reviving the ‘Bandung Spirit’, and underscored that solidarity, equality and collaboration are very pivotal in tackling global climate change.
“Through the South-South cooperation framework, Indonesia has provided climate management training for Africa, South Asia, Latin America, Caribbean and Pacific regions,” the President stated.
President Jokowi went on to say that developing countries should be part of the solution, adding that Indonesia’s chairmanship in international conferences had resulted in a number of measures and framework in tackling global climate change.
“Indonesia’s chairmanship in ASEAN has created the ASEAN taxonomy. Indonesia’s G20 Presidency has established a mixed financing scheme and state platform. Indonesia’s carbon exchange has also been operating since September,” the President said.
The President also emphasized the importance of unity and inclusiveness in achieving the global target. The President encouraged a global inventory or global stocktake to fulfill the funding needs of developing countries as well as commitment from developed countries that have not been met.
“The loss-and-damage funding structure should not in the form of debt and should be easy to access,” the President said.
President Jokowi further said that transparency and certainty in new collective funding target must be carried out with the support of adequate resources and technology.
“Through our joint efforts, the G77 and China can become a driving force for the global climate goal,” the President remarked.
