President Jokowi Raises Three Important Points Regarding Climate Change
Thepresidentpost.id - San Francisco, United States - President Joko Widodo attended the APEC Economic Leaders' Informal Dialogue and Working Lunch with the theme "Sustainability, Climate and Just Energy Transitions" held at the Moscone Convention Center, San Francisco, United States (16/11). In his speech, the President said that there are three important that must be the focus of APEC cooperation on the issue of climate change.
First, President Jokowi stated that APEC must realize an energy transition that is just, with equal collaboration, mutual
benefit, and in line with the Bangkok Document on BCG Economy and the Just Energy Transition Principles.
In this regard, Indonesia has launched a collaboration on the development of the EV ecosystem between the government, SOEs, and the private sector. In addition, this year ASEAN has also agreed on a commitment to develop a regional EV ecosystem," said the President.
Second, the President said that APEC must ensure every economy's access to affordable, sustainable, and modern green technology. The President said this can be done through technology transfer, capacity building, and access to critical minerals.
"APEC must encourage cooperation that ensures smooth supply chains, including investment in critical mineral development. And Indonesia wants to establish investment cooperation in nickel reserve management for the EV battery ecosystem to ensure clean energy is available to all according to the principle of no one left behind," said the President.
Third, the President said that APEC should encourage innovative financing mechanisms through synergies and partnerships involving private participation and support from international financial institutions.
"The JETP (Just Energy Transition Partnership) scheme and Energy Transition Mechanism can be models that can be expanded," said the Head of State.
Also accompanying the President at the meeting was Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto.
