Indonesia is hosting this year's Asia-Pacific Regional Space Experts Meeting
Thepresidentpost.id - Vienna, Austria - Indonesia will host the 29th international meeting of space experts in the Asia-Pacific Region. The meeting will be held in Jakarta on 19 – 22 September 2023.
This was conveyed by the Deputy Chief of Mission of the Indonesian Embassy/PTRI in Vienna, A. Alfiano Tamala, in the General Statement of the Government of Indonesia at the 66th Session of the United Nations Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space (UNCOPUOS) held in Vienna International Center, Vienna, Austria (5/6).
The space experts in the Asia-Pacific region will discuss the theme " Accelerating Space Economies through Regional Partnership ".
Wakepri Alfiano Tamala also said that Indonesia had issued Government Regulation No. 7 of 2023 last February regarding Mastery of Space Technology. This regulation covers the scope of regulation on the control and protection of space technology, security standards and procedures, safety in the control of space technology; as well as community participation in the mastery of space technology.
This meeting was organized by the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports and Technology (MEXT) of Japan and the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA).
The UNCOPUOS Committee meeting is the highest forum for making decisions on the results of reports from the Scientific and Technical Subcommittee ( STSC) and the Legal Subcommittee ( LSC). The report of the UNCOPUOS Committee will then be submitted to the UN General Assembly.
At this UNCOPUOS Committee meeting, the Government of Indonesia also submitted a report on a series of international activities in the space sector. Indonesia also reiterated its views on the need for sui generis arrangements regarding Geo-Stationary Orbit (GSO), the need for clarity and certainty regarding the definitions and boundaries between air space and space space, and encouraging international cooperation in achieving the Space2030 Agenda .
In particular, he emphasized the need for technical cooperation in the field of increasing human resources in the use of space technology for peaceful purposes, such as in the fields of health, telecommunications, weather and climate change.
The 66th Session of the UNCOPUOS Committee has been held since 31 May 2023 and will end on 9 June 2023.
