Stories and Hopes of Athletes Win Gold in the 32nd SEA Games
Thepresidentpost.id - Indonesia managed to win and win gold medals in a number of sports at the 23rd SEA Games in Cambodia.
This success certainly gave pride to the athletes who competed, one of which was Henny Sutjiono, captain of the women's national basketball team.
"Happy, proud and very relieved to be part of history, because women's basketball won a gold medal for basketball for the first time since 46 years ago the SEA Games were held for basketball," said Henny in a statement at the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, on Monday (05/ 06/2023).
Henny said that the gold medal was the result of hard work and constant struggle. "Just keep practicing hard, keep fighting don't give up, finally we can go step by step from bronze, then (SEA Games) Vietnam silver, until finally we get gold," said Henny.
Henny also said that the most difficult opponent for the women's basketball team to win a gold medal was the Philippines, which always managed to win gold medals. However, in the 32nd SEA Games match, the Indonesian women's basketball team managed to beat him.
"He (the Philippines) won gold medals twice in a row at the Philippines SEA Games and Vietnam's SEA Games, so the target should be the Philippines, (we) want to beat the Philippines because we also lost to the Philippines in the first game in Vietnam , " said Henny.
In addition, the captain of the hockey team, Prima Rinaldi, was also happy because the sport of hockey won a gold medal at the 32nd SEA Games. This achievement is a new history for Indonesia, after previously at the SEA Games in 2017 Indonesia only managed to get a silver medal.
"I'm really happy because this is like breaking an egg and this is also making new history for Indonesian hockey," he said.
Prima said that when he competed against Malaysia in the final round he had mixed feelings because he had to catch up on points.
"It was a mix-up when we played, we had a down time at 3-0, wow, we weren't going to catch up, but we kept trying, fighting until we finally won. Wow, it's really broken," said Prima.
Prima also hopes that in the future, the sport of hockey can have its own league in Indonesia so that it can develop the potential of hockey athletes in the country.
"For hockey, I hope there is a league of its own, yes, because so far we have not had a league where in Malaysia there is already a league so they can join us from a young age in the league, if in Malaysia we only rely on Porda, PON, continuing in the SEA Games is indeed a bit difficult,” hoped Prima.
Vivi Indrawaty, a Mobile Legends: Bang Bang (MLBB) e-sport athlete who also won a gold medal, feels similar pride . Vivi said that her achievement is expected to be a motivation for the next Indonesian e-sport athlete .
"So for the future it can be used as motivation for future successors, Mobile Legends ladies, continue to be proud to be useful for the country," said Vivi. (BPMI SETPRES/AIT)
