President Jokowi Emphasized the Important Role of Parliament in the 2045 ASEAN Agenda
Thepresidentpost.id - Indonesian President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) opened the ASEAN Leaders Meeting session with Representatives of the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA), Wednesday (10/05/2023) morning.
The meeting which was held at the Meruorah Komodo Hotel, Labuan Bajo, West Manggarai, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) was a series of implementation of the 42nd ASEAN Summit in 2023.
President Jokowi in his remarks stressed the importance of the role of parliament in drafting the ASEAN agenda for 2045.
"In the long term, the role of parliament is also very much needed to develop the ASEAN agenda for 2045," he said.
ASEAN-AIPA leaders, according to the President, must be able to ensure that ASEAN is more responsive and resilient in facing existing challenges so that it becomes a center of growth and becomes a region that is safe, stable and democratic.
"We must ensure that ASEAN is able to be more responsive and resilient in facing challenges, so that it becomes a center of growth and becomes a region that is safe, stable and democratic," he said.
The Head of State also stressed the importance of strengthening collaboration between the government and parliament in order to realize ASEAN as a center of growth.
"Government and parliament collaboration must be strengthened to maintain and strengthen political stability and democracy, in order to ensure ASEAN becomes the epicenter of growth ," he said.
On that occasion, President Jokowi also appreciated the support of the ASEAN parliament during the handling of the COVID-19 pandemic.
"Thank you for the support of parliament in ASEAN, so that policies during a pandemic emergency can be carried out quickly and ASEAN can pass through a critical period," he said.
